General Function
The Sr. Accountant serves as a lead for all major period-end closing activities for Luxottica North America Fixed Assets accounting for 5,000+ locations and 400,000+ active asset records to ensure capital and related expense items are accurately and fairly presented within the financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, IFRS and company policies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs timely and accurate recognition of capital expenditures and depreciation expenses.
- Anticipates, recognizes, and acts on financial exposures and opportunities.
- Performs monthly closing activities including recognition of complete capital projects, asset disposals or transfers, capitalized labor, repairs and maintenance, capital accruals and related depreciation accruals, other journal entries (preparation & review), analysis and reporting.
- Performs sub-ledger maintenance for accelerated depreciation and related asset retirements.
- Performs periodic reviews and analysis of the asset portfolio for pertinence and obsolescence.
- Effectively communicates with management (i.e., risks, opportunities, status updates).
- Provides support and maintains effective and ongoing communication with key stakeholders in operations, finance/accounting, and external customers, including auditors.
- Prepares annual plans/quarterly forecasts and works with relevant personnel to gather explanations for variances to plan and forecast in order to ensure that accounting activities are completed consistently and accurately. Communicate findings as appropriate.
- Analyzes, prepares, and reviews monthly reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts to ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies and procedures (including control deadlines).
- Proactively identifies and implements process improvements/controls for key accounting activities that minimize risk and allow for more efficient and effective accounting operations while maintaining compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and assists with special projects as needed or directed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 3+ years of comparable experience
- Accounting experience with working knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS
- Ability to adapt to shifting and competing priorities
- Strong communication (both verbal and written), organizational, and multi-tasking skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other system applications
- Leads by example through high personal standards and organizational commitment
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to be a self-starter, takes the initiative to solve problems
- Demonstrates the ability and desire to initiate and successfully accomplish goals
- Demonstrates the ability to constructively challenge the process and develop, with limited direction, new approaches, processes, solutions, etc.
- Effectively manages time and effort to achieve necessary tasks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA and/or MBA preferred
- Fixed Assets experience preferred
- SAP experience preferred
