About the seminar

This seminar is aimed at early childhood educators (0-3 years) interested in the pedagogy developed at the Pikler-Lóczy Institute in Budapest, based on the research and ideas of Dr. Emmi Pikler. The goal is to deepen understanding of these principles and apply them in daily practice.

The Rosa Sensat Teachers' Association of Barcelona established the "Pikler-Lóczy Group of AMRS" in 1992 to disseminate the pedagogical thought of Hungarian pediatrician Emmi Pikler and the Lóczy Institute of Budapest for the education of children aged 0 to 6.

The Pikler-Lóczy Group of AMRS is affiliated with the International Pikler (Lóczy) Association (AIP(L)) based in Paris, maintains regular contact with the Budapest Institute, and participates in international meetings organized by this entity.

The dissemination of Piklerian principles, adapted to our context, began in 1974 by the Rosa Sensat Association. In 1989, Judit Falk, then-director of Lóczy, contributed as a lecturer at the Barcelona Summer School.

All association members interested in Lóczy’s work are considered part of the Pikler-Lóczy Group, particularly educators who align with its principles, study its philosophy, and explore ways to apply it in daily practice.

Activities

  • Ongoing training for early childhood educators (0-6 years), including quarterly courses and a summer school course.
  • Coordination of an in-depth reflection group for educators from various nursery schools especially interested in Lóczy’s thought. This group debates and deepens the principles and their concrete application in our school reality.
  • Debate conferences: The AMRS organized the "Growing Without Violence: The Education of Children at Lóczy" Early Childhood Education Conference in March 2005 and the III State Early Childhood Education Meeting "The Conquest of Autonomy" in July 2008. Both events featured Anna Tardos, director of the Emmi Pikler Institute, and professionals from Spain, Italy, and Belgium. Experiences related to Lóczy’s principles implemented in nursery and preschools in Catalonia and Andalusia were presented.
  • Documentation: Continuous research of written and audiovisual information, as well as specialized bibliographic resources, made available to interested individuals and entities through the association’s library.
  • Publications: Dissemination of the Emmi Pikler Institute’s writings through the association’s publications, particularly the journals Infància and the "Temes d’Infància" collection, in Catalan and Spanish.
  • Information for interested individuals and centers, primarily through correspondence, email, and personal contact.
