Security Officer Shelter Access Control

About the role
As an Access Control Professional at a shelter location, you will help create a welcoming, controlled environment by monitoring entry points, verifying authorized access, and maintaining a visible presence. You will communicate respectfully with residents, visitors, and staff, respond to security-related concerns, and support routine patrols.
Responsibilities
- Provide customer service to residents, visitors, staff, and service providers by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities as appropriate.
- Monitor access points, verify authorization for entry, maintain visitor logs, and help control access to designated areas within the shelter location.
- Respond to incidents, resident concerns, and critical situations in a calm, professional, problem-solving manner, following established post orders and escalation procedures.
- Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned interior and exterior areas, including entrances, common areas, and the perimeter, while documenting observations and irregularities.
- Communicate professionally with site personnel and public agencies as needed, and complete accurate incident reports, daily activity reports, and other required documentation.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws. Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
- As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
- Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
- A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
