Responsibilities
- Responds to all calls for service and request for assistance from Meredith College student, staff, faculty and visitors.
- Determines necessary and appropriate actions needed to resolve problems and answers calls for service.
- May need to resort to applying minimum levels of force at times.
- Patrols campus by vehicle or foot.
- Controls access to campus and the Greenway during closing hours.
- Responds to any call, fire or intrusion alarms, including suspicious person(s) and take appropriate action.
- Provides traffic direction for large and small events.
- Enforces parking regulations, including towing and auto-booting as appropriate.
- Provides car unlock, jump start, and other automotive services to students, faculty, and staff.
- (Flat tires can be changed if the conditions are safe)
- Checks doors and window of building to ensure they are secure.
- Turns on and turn off interior and exterior light according to set schedules or special request.
- May be required to work during campus closures.
- Aid in turning on and off campus lighting for Special Events and scheduled sports activities.
Qualifications
- Ability to use discretion in handling difficult persons and analyze situations likely to be encountered on patrol.
- Observe and retain names, faces and details of occurrences; keep detailed notes for report writing and other daily log sheets, understand and correct emergency alarm systems.
- Observe legal and defensive driving practices; interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to understand and work within the scope of authority; apply policies and procedures.

Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current NC Driver License and clear driving history required.
- Previous security experience is a plus.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Must be able to work any shift and respond/report for duty, as necessary.
- Part of duties may include general office setting with moderate noise level.
- Must be able to operate company vehicles.
- Patrols campus outdoors and may be exposed to the weather.
- May be held for additional shifts during inclement weather, if relief is not possible.
- Ability to navigate physical obstacles, such as walls, heights, etc.
- Ability to physically help students, faculty, and staff having health issues.
- Must be able to walk for extended distances, stand for long periods, climb stairs, and run, as necessary.
- Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Position Classification
Essential personnel under college policy and subject to college and department policies regarding essential personnel.
Shift Information
1st shift, 10am - 6pm.
