About the Role
Under indirect supervision of the Watch Commander and/or department supervisor, performs a variety of duties to protect against emergency and safety issues, as well as criminal violations, to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees. Investigates reported incidents and all criminal violations of property.
Responsibilities
- Patrols and monitors buildings, premises, and parking lots to detect criminal violations or hazardous conditions.
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; locks and unlocks doors and buildings as scheduled.
- Allows entry into secured areas by authorized personnel only.
- Monitors fire alarm system, security alarms, and CCTV at the Security Control Center; dispatches officers to respond to alarms via radio.
- Ensures facility preparedness for disasters, Homeland Security issues, or other safety/emergency situations.
- Detects and reports unusual conditions, situations, or malfunctions affecting safety or fires at facilities.
- Responds to disasters, Homeland Security, and safety/emergency issues; assists with communication using two radios as necessary.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergencies, fires, and disasters at facilities.
- Performs daily operational support duties, including raising and lowering flags, answering visitor questions, and providing directions.
- Maintains traffic control in parking lots and the Emergency Department area; issues parking citations to violators.
- Stands by with a fire extinguisher at the Heli-Pad during Medi-Vac helicopter landings and departures.
- Observes departing personnel to guard against theft and detains individuals for further investigation when necessary.
- Detects and reports criminal activity or property damage to the Security Operations Center; assists law enforcement in protecting Kaiser Permanente property, staff, patients, and visitors.
- Notifies public authorities as necessary and assists local law enforcement with active investigations to identify and prosecute suspects.
- Makes recommendations to supervisors on policy, procedure, and budgetary changes as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Security Guard License (Hawaii) required at hire.
- Driver’s License (from any state) required at hire.
- Basic Life Support certification within 6 months of hire.
- Working knowledge of and skill in word processing PC applications.
- Registered Guard with the Hawaii Board of Private Detectives and Guards; or current federal, state, or county law enforcement officer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in law enforcement, security, or related public safety experience (e.g., corrections, firefighters).
Schedule
- Part-time (32 hours per week).
- Variable shift: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- Working hours: 12:01 AM – 11:59 PM.
Pay
$23.70 - $27.89 per hour.
