Security Coordinator & Facilities Maintenance Technician II

Primary Responsibility

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Security Coordinator & Facilities Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the areas of general preventive maintenance, repair, and custodian functions in and around the facilities or grounds, using a variety of equipment.

Pre-requisites (Qualifications Standards)

  • Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position, such as an Associate’s Degree and three years related experience, High School/GED and four years related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in campus security or related field required.
  • Professional training and certifications in the maintenance field desired.

Facilities & Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor less experienced team members; may serve as lead or point person on designated projects or functions.
  • Serve as backup to the Facilities Manager when needed.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial duties—including trash removal—to maintain offices, facilities, restrooms, public areas, and vehicles in clean, orderly condition.
  • Maintain and repair campus buildings, utilities, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems, including plumbing, heating, air control, and filtration systems.
  • Provide locksmith services and perform carpentry repairs.
  • Maintain, repair, and restore structures, woodwork, doors, windows, counters, cabinets, and flooring; perform interior/exterior painting; assist with new construction and remodeling.
  • Assemble, install, relocate, repair, and replace appliances, fixtures, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Install, service, and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Perform snow removal from structures, walkways, and parking areas.
  • Mow, control weeds, and perform landscaping and other groundskeeping duties.
  • Perform manual labor such as digging, shoveling, planting, and other facilities and grounds tasks.
  • Maintain campus motor pool, including minor maintenance, repair, and scheduling use.
  • Maintain records, inventory, and supplies.
  • Ensure safety and security of buildings.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with campus administrators, faculty, staff, students, contractors/vendors, and the public; provide site information.
  • Participate in campus and college committees, planning processes, and other assignments.
  • Provide on-call service as needed.
  • Perform all work in accordance with sustainability, energy management, and recycling plans, procedures, and policies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Security & Surveillance Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, implement, and manage security-related technologies, ensuring alignment with institutional safety strategies, regulatory requirements, and long-term operational goals.
  • Oversee security camera systems to ensure proper placement, functionality, and compliance with institutional policies; coordinate maintenance or upgrades as necessary.
  • Plan, install, and integrate campus security infrastructure—including surveillance and access control systems—in collaboration with Facilities and external vendors.
  • Collaborate with Facilities to address infrastructure issues (e.g., water leaks, power outages, safety hazards), ensuring timely resolution and communication.
  • Coordinate responses to Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) requests related to security footage, ensuring compliance with legal and institutional standards.
  • Review and analyze incidents involving theft, vandalism, and other security concerns; coordinate with law enforcement and recommend corrective or preventive measures.

On-Call & Emergency Response

  • Serve as an on-call institutional resource during campus safety incidents, ensuring adherence to protocols and effective coordination.
  • Collaborate with Facilities to address infrastructure issues (e.g., water leaks, power outages, safety hazards), ensuring timely resolution and communication.

Supervision Received

This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may serve as a lead to others and may serve as back up to the Facilities Manager at times.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records report will be required.
  • Position may require evenings, weekends, holidays and on-call duty.
  • Incumbents in this position will be required to have or obtain and maintain a Colorado driver’s license and adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
  • As part of the job responsibilities, this position requires the employee to be on call and available via their cell phone.
  • This position requires all employees to own an Apple iPhone or Android-based smartphone running a current, supported version of iOS or Android operating system. The device and supporting service must be capable of running various line-of-business apps and websites.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed using a computer and a variety of skilled trade tools and motorized equipment daily, and cleaning and housekeeping tools and equipment frequently.
  • This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally.
  • Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.

Pay

Hiring range = $55,099.02 - $61,193.60 ($26.49 - $29.42 hourly) annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with on-call responsibilities as needed.
