Security Ambassador (Occasional)

About the role

The Caltech Security Department is hiring occasional security officers to serve as security ambassadors at special events and in other designated support roles on campus. The position may also augment basic patrol assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide high visibility foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrols of campus grounds, parking lots, and facilities.
• Respond to security calls and investigate suspicious activity.
• Conduct fire watches and guard buildings during construction or utility disruptions.
• Maintain communication on a two-way radio using applicable 10-codes.
• Communicate clearly and provide assistance to responding officers in emergency situations.
• Provide customer service and safety and disability escorts to the campus community.
• Help with raising and lowering the campus flags.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of one year of law enforcement, fire department, or security experience.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Must have a valid BSIS California Guard Card upon hire and a valid CA driver’s license.
• Must be able to adhere to the Institute’s vehicle policy.
• First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
• Familiarity with security dispatch procedures.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis and walk, climb stairs, bend, and reach continuously.
