About the role
The Second Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading second-shift operations across multiple manufacturing areas within the Technetics Group Columbia site. This position provides leadership, direction, and support to second-shift colleagues while ensuring safe, efficient, and quality-focused operations that meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead second-shift operations across multiple manufacturing areas to ensure production priorities are executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with quality standards.
- Partner with first-shift leadership and support functions to ensure effective communication, continuity between shifts, and alignment on production priorities, staffing needs, and operational requirements.
- Supervise, coach, and develop second-shift colleagues while promoting accountability, engagement, and adherence to company policies and expectations.
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, corrective action, and other employee relations matters in partnership with site leadership and Human Resources.
- Monitor shift performance and address issues that impact safety, quality, productivity, or delivery through effective problem-solving and decision-making.
- Cookordinate colleague assignments and resources across second-shift operations to support production priorities, operational flexibility, and changing customer demand.
- Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with safety requirements, promoting safe work practices, and addressing safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Partner with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Planning, and other support functions as needed to resolve issues impacting second-shift operations.
- Utilize ERP and other operational systems to review, maintain, analyze, and communicate production information, system transactions, labor utilization, and other operational data to support shift execution, informed decision-making, production execution, and continuous improvement.
- Support continuous improvement efforts that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and overall operational effectiveness.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of manufacturing, production, or operations experience with progressively increasing leadership responsibilities, including supervisory experience
- Demonstrated experience providing work direction, training employees, leading projects, or supporting day-to-day operations in a manufacturing environment
- Experience utilizing ERP systems, production schedules, manufacturing systems, operational metrics, or production data
- Ability to communicate effectively and build working relationships across functions and shifts
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, operations, engineering, business, or related field preferred
- Work knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, forming, machining, finishing, plating, or similar operations
- Continuous improvement experience
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, varying temperatures, and other industrial conditions
- Ability to move throughout manufacturing areas for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs as needed to support daily operations
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds
- Ability to visually inspect work areas, equipment, and production processes
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to utilize a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, reporting, communication, and system transactions
