Seasonal Sign Technician
About the role
The Anoka County Transportation division aims to enhance and protect life by providing safe roads and reducing traffic congestion. This position involves assisting with the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices and supporting the setup and upkeep of traffic control signage.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation of installing and maintaining various types of traffic control devices.
- Support seasonal painting and grinding operations.
- Fabricate signs and traffic control devices in accordance with MUTCD and Standard Signs Manual, utilizing Flexi Sign Software, computerized sign cutters, solvent based printers, and silk-screening equipment.
- Create correctly sized aluminum sign blanks using tools such as aluminum shears, radius cutters, and band saws.
- Follow MUTCD and department standards and procedures when performing signage, painting, and grinding operations on the County Highway System.
- Affix signs and traffic control devices in a neat, orderly, and productive manner.
- Assist with maintenance of sign vehicles through daily vehicle inspections, conducting basic routine maintenance such as checking oil and filling fluids, and notifying Fleet Services and/or supervisor when vehicles need more extensive service.
- Use computerized system to call for underground locates prior to installing new signs.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Valid Minnesota driver's license.
- Successfully pass a criminal and driver's license background check.
- Experience using basic hand tools and basic maintenance of vehicles.
- Experience working on high volume traffic worksites in a safe manner.
Qualifications
- Physical demands and work conditions include indoor and outdoor county work sites, including construction sites near high-speed/high-volume traffic, in all weather conditions.
- Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to construction equipment depending on assignment.
- Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties.
Pay & Benefits
Salary: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour. Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 22: $18.35 to $23.85 per hour. Advancement/professional development opportunities.
Work Location
This position will work at the Anoka County Highway building located at 1440 Bunker Lake Blvd NW, Andover MN 55304. Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00pm.
