About the role

The Thurston County Public Works Department is seeking a reliable and customer-focused temporary Scalehouse Operator to join their dynamic Solid Waste team. This temporary position assists customers, collects fees, and performs custodial tasks at Thurston County Solid Waste facilities in Lacey, Rainier, and Rochester. The schedule may vary from part-time to full-time, including weekends and holidays, and may last up to six months.

Responsibilities

  • Measures loads of refuse for cubic yardage to determine cost and categorizes loads.
  • Determines categories for loads and collects fees, explaining the rate structure and issuing receipts.
  • Answers phone calls from the public for information on dumping.
  • Logs daily and weekly receipt sheets and deposits cash receipts weekly.
  • Performs custodial maintenance of facilities daily.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year work experience requiring public contact and cashiering duties.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License.

Desired Skills

  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Previous cash handling experience.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
  • Able to take oral and written instructions, adaptable to changing work conditions/tasks, and work independently when necessary.
