About Interlake State Recreation Area

The Interlake State Recreation Area was formerly a coal mine and now focuses on off-road vehicle recreation. It covers 3,550 acres with 100 miles of trails and 17 lakes, offering diverse trail experiences for various recreational activities.

Salary Statement

The hourly wage for seasonal positions varies, starting at $12.25/hour.

A Day In The Life

  • Attendants: Provide quality customer service at assigned property stations, collect revenue from fees and permits, and handle cash/credit card transactions.
  • Concessions: Offer quality customer service at concession stands, sell location-specific items, handle cash/credit payments, collect fees & permits, and report inventory.
  • Housekeepers: Maintain and clean property buildings, grounds, and facilities, including regular deep cleaning of restrooms, showers, and other property buildings.
  • Laborers: Perform various duties based on property needs, such as landscaping, mowing, firewood processing, structure maintenance, sign creation, trail upkeep, carpentry, and plumbing.
  • Office Assistants: Answer inquiries about the property and provide quality customer service to park visitors, assist property management with operations, and perform administrative tasks.
  • Clerks: Support property staff by performing a wide variety of tasks, including inventory, stocking, reporting, budgeting, and assisting with other administrative duties.
  • Security Officers: Monitor visitor activities, enforce regulations, and provide security to facilities, construction sites, and logging operations.
  • DOC Crew Supervisors: Manage the activities of Department of Corrections work release crews and assist with labor duties.
  • Shooting Range Officers (Brookville Lake Only): Ensure safe gun handling, enforce shooting range procedures, and provide basic maintenance.

What You'll Need For Success

  • May work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to wear a DNR provided uniform.
  • May be required to work with DOC work release crews.
  • May need a valid driver's license.
  • May be required to travel to additional properties.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Benefits Of Employment With The State Of Indiana

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
