Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker

About the role

The position is under the general direction of the Assistant Parks, Recreation and Aquatics Director. The primary focus is on preparing and maintaining city recreational fields to ensure sporting events run smoothly and comply with established guidelines, rules, and regulations. Additionally, the role involves assisting with general groundskeeping duties within city parks, trails, and open spaces.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain City recreational fields to ensure sporting events run smoothly and comply with established guidelines, rules, and regulations
• Daily general maintenance of parks, trails, and facilities
• Clean and maintain restroom and picnic shelter complexes
• Gather and dispose of litter
• Operate hand, power, and automotive equipment while exercising safety precautions to avoid obstacles and people
• Operate various tools including, but not limited to, shovel, rake, weed eater, mower, blower, specialized baseball equipment
• Aid in preparing facilities and setting up and taking down equipment for department programs and events
• Provide assistance and support to other Parks maintenance staff as needed
• Inspect fields, facilities, and equipment after events to identify and assess damage; notify supervisor of property damage; prepare related records
• Communicate with City personnel, outside agencies, and members of the community to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns
• Communicate feedback between patrons and supervisor
• Answer public questions regarding facilities
• Maintain proper storage and upkeep of equipment
• Attend all staff meetings as required
• Wear proper safety equipment necessary for the job
• Contribute to a positive team environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Working knowledge of common grounds keeping tools
• Previous grounds and recreational fieldwork is desirable
• At least 18 years old at time of hire
• Valid Washington driver's license
• Good driving record
• Willingness to perform physical duties of the position; preparing and maintaining City recreational facilities

Qualifications

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
• Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment or small tools
• Ability to stay focused on the task at hand for several hours
• Reaching overhead and horizontal and moderate lifting
• Periodically required to kneel, crouch, bend, stoop or crawl
• Frequent exposure to high noise levels
• Frequent exposure to high heat and humidity

Schedule

Up to 40 hours per week. Scheduling flexibility is required; shifts will include weekends and occasional evenings.
