About the role
Under the close supervision of the Parks Division Head, Parks Supervisor and/or Crew Leaders, performs skilled work pertaining to risk management, maintenance and construction of city parks, streetscapes, sites, cemetery, Parks and Recreation facilities, City Special Events irrigation systems, and/or athletic fields. Adheres to all written mandatory standards of operations, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and construction tasks for city parks, athletic fields, cemetery, and recreation facilities
- Operate tools, machines, and equipment used in park and facility maintenance
- Adhere to OSHA safety standards and general construction practices
- Apply principles of plant and turf life in maintenance activities
- Responsibly care for materials, equipment, and tools
- Report athletic field problems that could restrict or deny field use
- Communicate effectively with other departments and the public (coaches, school children)
- Operate light and heavy trucks, four-wheeled A.T.V.s, riding and walk-behind mowers, tractors, backhoes, and other maintenance equipment
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Perform physical tasks including frequent walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.); moderate stooping and/or kneeling
Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years old to apply
- Valid Learner's Permit or valid Utah Driver's License required
- Some related work experience preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of tools, machines, and equipment used in park maintenance and construction
Working Conditions
- 90% of work is performed outside in parks and cemetery
- Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and wet/humid conditions
- Constant exposure to excessive noise and vibration
- Requires some weekend, holiday, and evening work
- Heavily supervised position
Pay
$17.44/hour
Schedule
- Seasonal (non-benefitted, less than 6 months)
- Position available through November
- 40 hours per week
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
