Seasonal Christmas Assistant

Pay

$21.00 – $25.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Position Overview: Assist with Christmas assistance programs and other seasonal assistance programs as assigned.

• Assist with Coats for Kids sign-up and distribution
• Assist with Christmas toys sign-up and distribution
• Help with preparation for all Christmas events
• Assist with Christmas events logistics
• Work closely with Christmas volunteers and provide directions as needed
• Help with Christmas Sheetz program preparation and distribution
• Interview clients, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine needed services
• Maintain case history and prepare reports as required
• Refer clients to community resources (e.g., job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment) when they do not qualify for direct services or need additional support; provide concrete information on where to go and how to apply
• Develop and review service plans in consultation with clients and perform follow-ups to assess the quantity and quality of services provided
• Assist with the food pantry as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services field; Master’s degree preferred
• Past employment in social services or human services
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Bilingual ability (English and Spanish) preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of cultural flexibility and competency in working with multi-cultural participants
• Experience working with inner-city populations
• Detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision
• Willingness to serve on boards, committees, and panels
• Must be able to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army’s insurance company

Qualifications

Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law requires all prospective employees to complete the following clearance and background checks:

• PA Child Abuse History Clearance
• PA State Police Criminal Record Check
• PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check

Completion of a Pennsylvania-approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
