About the Role

Reporting to the Family Services and Pathway of Hope Coordinator, this seasonal position supports Christmas assistance programs and related initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Christmas assistance programs and specific seasonal assistance programs as assigned
• Assist with Coats for Kids sign-up and distribution
• Assist with Christmas toys sign-up and distribution
• Help with all Christmas event preparation and logistics
• Work closely with Christmas volunteers and provide directions as needed
• Help with Christmas Sheetz program preparation and distribution
• Interview clients, assess their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine needed services
• Maintain case history and prepare reports as required
• Refer clients to community resources (when clients do not qualify for direct services or need additional services) for services such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, and medical treatment; provide concrete information on where to go and how to apply
• Develop and review service plans in consultation with clients and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided
• Assist with food pantry as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services Field (Master’s degree preferred)
• Past employment with social services or human services
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Bilingual ability (English and Spanish) preferred
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army's insurance company
• Knowledge of cultural flexibility and competency in working with multi-cultural participants; experience working with inner-city populations
• Detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision
• Willingness to serve on boards, committees, and panels
• Must complete the following clearance and background checks as required by Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law:
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • PA State Police Criminal Record Check
  • PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check
• Completion of a Pennsylvania-approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training prior to employment
