About the Role
This non-exempt position assists customers in their shopping experience by receiving, cutting, and serving seafood products in an efficient, friendly, and courteous manner. The role reports to the Seafood Manager.
Responsibilities
- Follow proper techniques for cutting and preparing seafood items for display cases.
- Monitor product expiration dates and ensure proper rotation of items.
- Remove damaged, unsaleable, or returnable products and follow procedures for damage claims.
- Accurately count and record merchandise as part of the inventory process.
- Change shelf tags, price markers, and label merchandise quickly and accurately.
- Answer customer questions about department items, procedures, and policies accurately and courteously.
- Assist customers at the counter by weighing, wrapping, and pricing selected items.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards for individual and team results.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve store management when necessary.
- Implement Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
- Unload, sort, and stock incoming shipments without damaging merchandise.
- Neatly stock department shelves, ensuring products are front-facing and match UPC codes to shelf tags.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and department for customers and coworkers.
- Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures; encourage team members to do the same.
- Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
- Promote new items and weekly specials through effective merchandising and creative displays (non-essential).
- Monitor the department for potential security issues and report concerns to management (non-essential).
- Complete additional tasks as identified by management, assist other departments as needed, and gain new skills (non-essential).
Requirements
- Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
- Complete ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino Learning Plan.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
- Possess basic math and reading skills required for the position.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
Physical Abilities
- Reach overhead with both arms up to 72 inches and lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Push and pull grocery items with a peak force of 20 lbs.
- Stand and walk for long periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete).
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Bend and squat, at times to floor level.
- Work in colder conditions, such as grocery coolers and freezers.
- Climb a ladder up to 5 feet (non-essential).
