Screw Machine Operator

About the role

Operates assigned multiple spindle automatic screw machines to perform a limited range of rough and finish turning, facing, boring, drilling, reaming, tapping threading, forming, and similar machining operations. Performs the job with assistance from Team Leader or Troubleshooter when required.

Responsibilities

• Operate machines at correct feeds and speeds, following standard operating procedures, producing good pieces within acceptable quality control limits per drawings.
• Receive direction from Team Leader or Troubleshooter and work from detailed machine parts drawings, machine manuals, specifications, tool charts and instructions.
• Inspect parts, remove and sharpen tools, gauge work, and make machine adjustments as necessary.
• Set up and assist in setup of the screw machine.
• Move parts produced by the previous shift away from machines for pickup by Material Handler or Shipping & Receiving personnel.
• Check bar stock availability and correctness for the parts ordered.
• Turn on machine and produce parts; check first part from each spindle for adherence to quality specifications; shut off and adjust if needed.
• Keep bar stock holder full to prevent material run out and loss of productivity.
• Inspect and gauge parts as per manufacturing procedures.
• Notify Team Leader or Troubleshooter if parts fall outside drawing tolerances and adjustments cannot be made.
• Detect and report faulty operations, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies and other unusual conditions.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area daily; perform general machine and work area cleanup.
• Oil and grease machine, replace coolant, and replace drills, taps or inserts as required.
• Keep machine free of chips.
• Complete time, production, and quality reports as necessary.
• Collaborate with operators from other shifts to exchange information pertinent to the work.

• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Must be able to stand throughout an entire shift.
• Must be able to bend forward, stretch forward, and reach into machines as needed.
• Visual acuity to read micrometers, inspect small parts, and adjust tooling.
• Must be able to lift up to forty (40) lbs, ten (10) times throughout an entire shift.
• Occasional lifting up to seventy-five (75) lbs may be necessary.
