Screw Machine Apprentice

About the role

McGard LLC is a leading company in the automotive industry specializing in manufacturing high-quality, precision-engineered automotive security products and components. We are seeking a highly motivated Screw Machine Apprentice to join our dynamic team and contribute to our ongoing success.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate one or more, typically two, six spindle screw machines.
• Learn the fundamental operation of a Screw Machine.
• Learn procedures on inspecting and producing quality parts as per quality procedure LDM-3.
• Loads bar stock into bar feed mechanism.
• Identify and replace worn tools and sharpen cut off blades.
• Determine proper tooling needed by reading layout.
• Notify lead person or screw machine operator of variations in dimension.
• Adjust tools to bring parts into conformance with print.
• Notify Lead if tooling is getting low.
• Use different measuring devices used in the blanking process.
• Change collets, bushings, and feed fingers in stock feeding mechanism.
• Perform routine maintenance checks (lube level, cutting oil level, etc.).
• Empty and spin chips.
• Fill out time slip completely and accurately.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Proficiency in basic math such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to lift and carry 15 ft. bars (60 pounds max.).
• Ability to stand 75% of the shift.
• Ability to communicate and work well with others.

Qualifications

• Helpful additional skills and abilities include:
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to use calipers and micrometer.
