Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming scrap shipments to verify material quality, value, and compliance with company specifications.
- Identify and remove prohibited or hazardous materials in accordance with company environmental and safety policies.
- Direct customers and vendors to appropriate unloading areas while maintaining safe traffic flow throughout the yard.
- Assist with unloading, sorting, picking, and processing recyclable materials.
- Operate forklifts, skid steers, and other equipment as trained and authorized.
- Communicate material concerns, safety issues, or policy violations to supervisors.
- Provide support throughout the yard and assist with other operational duties as assigned.
- Maintain a safe work environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
- Follow all company safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals is helpful but not required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Able to regularly lift 50 pounds or more.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify material discrepancies.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
- Daily face-to-face and radio communication with customers, drivers, and coworkers.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hat.
- Exposure to active industrial operations, moving equipment, uneven terrain, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.
