About the Role

The Scientist III supports the forest management research program by coordinating and supervising data-collection efforts, ensuring quality control of research data, performing data analysis, and writing technical and research documents. This position is 100 % externally funded and renewable annually pending availability of funds.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise field and laboratory data-collection activities for forest-management research projects.
• Implement quality-control protocols to maintain data integrity.
• Conduct statistical and geospatial analyses using R, ArcGIS, Avenza, and related tools.
• Prepare technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and grant proposals.
• Supervise student workers, technicians, and/or temporary field crews.

Requirements

• PhD in Forest Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resources, or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum of three years of post-degree research experience in forestry or natural-resource management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, R, GPS units, ArcGIS, and Avenza.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged sitting for data entry and analysis.
• On-site field work involving walking, hiking, and carrying equipment.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Pay

$64,210–$105,914 per year.
