About the Role

Danbury Public Schools is seeking a long-term substitute Chemistry teacher to cover a leave of absence from September 14 through October 26. The ideal candidate will create a student-centered, problem-based learning environment, collaborate effectively in a small setting with a diverse population, and demonstrate flexibility and enthusiasm for teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education.
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines to maintain an advantageous learning environment.
  • Manage classroom and individual student behavior.
  • Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives, appropriate techniques, and tailored to all learners.
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge of Chemistry.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences and keep parents updated on student progress.
  • Assess student learning continuously and identify areas for intervention.
  • Design instruction for individual and small-group settings to meet the needs of all students.
  • Design and implement assessments to measure progress and refine curriculum.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication.
  • Uphold a positive school community image and encourage ethical student behavior.
  • Assist in selecting textbooks, equipment, and educational materials.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Participate in professional learning through seminars and workshops.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of teaching methods and materials for secondary Chemistry.

Requirements

  • Active 031 CDE Chemistry Certification as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to teach high school classes, with experience in team teaching preferred.
  • Urban teaching experience is a plus.
  • Strong human relations skills to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and staff.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, materials, and practices for secondary education.
  • Ability to prepare effective lesson plans.

Pay

Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education.
