Science Paraprofessional

Position Qualifications

Must be at least 19 years of age.
Must hold a current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a paraprofessional educator endorsement OR a current Illinois Substitute License (SUB) OR a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.

Position Responsibilities

• Maintains professional relationships with staff and students.
• Establishes positive working relationship with students.
• Prepares lab materials, tools, and supplies for science classes.
• Sets up lab stations according to teacher instructions.
• Aid teachers during experiments.
• Cleans and organizes lab equipment after use.
• Washes glassware and properly stores lab tools and equipment.
• Keeps the science lab room neat and safe.
• Checks inventory of supplies and reports low or missing items to Division Leader.
• Labels, sorts, and stores chemicals and materials according to lab storage safety guidelines.
• Fulfills all science lab safety rules and maintains a safe learning environment.
• Inspections equipment for damage, wear, or malfunction and reports issues to the supervising teacher and Division Leader.
• Disposes of lab waste properly according to waste disposal safety guidelines.
• Ensures equipment is returned to designated storage areas and remains ready for future use.
• Makes sure students understand basic lab procedures and expectations under teacher supervision.
• Provides basic guidance during experiments while ensuring students follow teacher instructions and established safety protocols.
• Participates in department meetings.
• Supports diverse learner needs (IEPs, 504s, English learners) in collaboration with the teacher.
• Reports for duty at the times and locations designated.
• Supervises students outside of the classroom during passing periods.
• Attends all staff meetings and/or professional development sessions as allowed by contract.
• Adheres to the published policies and procedures of the District.
• Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Aids the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
• Performs any other related duties as requested by the Assistant Principal or designee.

Terms Of Employment

• 10-month work year as defined in the AFT/IFT Local 943 collective bargaining agreement.
• Starting wage between $20.21 - $22.23/hour, based on education and verified experience;
• Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension;
