Paraprofessional
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of study at an accredited postsecondary institution; or an Associate's degree or higher; or passed a rigorous examination demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Type at prescribed rate of speed.
- Computer proficiency.
Performance Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and equipment.
- Assist the teacher in implementing classroom activities.
- Provide instructional assistance as planned or coordinated by the teacher or administrator.
- Provide student supervision as required by the teacher or administrator.
- Perform assigned clerical and bookkeeping duties.
- Compile required data and enter into the computer.
- Participate in training programs and in-service.
- Plan and organize appropriate instruction using guidelines established by the teacher or administrator.
- Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom environment.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment for students.
- Operate instructional equipment effectively.
- Maintain records and files pertinent to assigned program.
- Assist in maintaining positive relationships between the school and parents.
- Contact parents at the direction of teacher or administration.
- Serve as substitute for teacher as directed.
- Assist in assessing student progress as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Assist students with personal hygiene and / or grooming if required.
- Use effective, positive interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Pay
RANGE OF PAY: $16.44/hr - $18.17/hr (Additional compensation from the Millage initiative will be awarded annually. For the 2026-2027 school year, the amount to be determined by NESPA bargaining and ratification and will be prorated from July 1, 2026. The amount for the 2025-2026 school year was $5,908.)
