Responsibilities

  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of an assigned area within a storage facility.
  • Organizes, maintains, and rotates stock.
  • Affixes physical inventories of stock.
  • Keeps shelves and goods clean and orderly.
  • Assists in receiving items.
  • Unloads vans, trucks, and trailers.
  • Ensures the accurate receipt of items.
  • Compares delivered items with invoices.
  • Notes damages to goods received.
  • Placess stocked items in their proper storage locations.
  • Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts and electric pallet movers.
  • Fills requisitions.
  • Pulls, organizes, and prepares requisitioned items for delivery.
  • Loads items onto vans, trucks, and trailers.
  • Delivers and picks up supplies, materials, inter-office mail, food, and equipment throughout the BCPS system.
  • Obtains proper signatures for deliveries.
  • Operates step vans, light trucks, automobiles, and other vehicles.
  • Delivers and picks up items on an assigned route.
  • Inspects equipment returned from loan.
  • Acts as a substitute driver as needed.
  • Moves furniture and equipment.
  • Provides assistance to drivers.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training and Experience: Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent. (Experience in warehousing, distribution, or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.)
  • Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require possession of a valid Class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic understanding of inventory practices, basic knowledge of warehousing and/or distribution, knowledge of manual labor tasks, skill in manual labor tasks, skill in receiving and storing items, ability to operate material handling equipment, ability to communicate effectively, ability to keep records of deliveries and the receipt of items.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

  • The work of this class entails the performance of heavy physical labor including frequent walking and standing, working at heights, lifting and carrying of objects of moderate to heavy weight (up to 60 pounds), and the use of coordinative and manipulative skills in the operation of material handling equipment.
  • Duties require exposure to an aware house and shop environment that includes exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, machinery, and equipment.
  • Duties may require the operation of automobiles, step vans, and light trucks and travel throughout Baltimore County.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees must successfully complete an internal training program related to the operation of equipment.
  • The employee must remain competent to operate such equipment safely throughout their employment.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • All people employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed.
  • The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
