Job Summary

Mary of Nazareth School in Darnestown, Maryland is hiring a long-term substitute School Nurse. The position pays $175 per day and can be contacted at mfriel@maryofnazareth.org.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic healthcare for students
• Dispense medication as prescribed
• Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
• Maintain student health records in accordance with the Health Department and the Catholic Schools Office
• Educate students on healthy habits such as proper nutrition and hygiene
• Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
• Distribute health information to the school community as needed
• Maintain confidentiality in all areas of responsibility
• Identify health-related barriers to learning
• Contact Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in collaboration with site administration, when necessary, to respond to medical emergencies
• Obtain and organize needed medical and administrative supplies necessary to provide health services

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• At least 3 years of relevant experience
• Experience as a registered nurse, licensed in the state of Maryland
• Experience working with a diverse age group
• Knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices as applied to children and youth
• Ability to provide effective nursing and related health services for students
• Maintain competencies and clinical nursing skills
• Knowledge of CPR, first aid, and AED
• Calm and collected during an emergency
• Able to lift and support students who need to be moved
• Able to carry emergency supplies to school property locations
• Must affirm and support the Catholic Church in the performance of their duties
