About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a school nurse to join the integrated pupil services team. This team collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and community organizations to support student learning and development.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in developing and evaluating school-based health policies and procedures
• Participate on the Student Support and Intervention Team (SSIT)
• Develop Individualized Care Plans (IHP) and monitor interventions and outcomes
• Create Emergency Health Plans (EHP) for school staff
• Educate school staff about chronic illness
• Facilitate enrollment in BadgerCare for eligible students
• Implement health promotion activities
• Collaborate with other student services staff on violence risk assessments (VRA) and suicide risk assessments (SRA)
• Respond to health emergencies
• Monitor and manage communicable diseases
• Plan and implement health screening programs
• Work with the school crisis response team
• Provide emergency treatment for anaphylaxis and severe asthma episodes
• Direct the provision of care by nurse assistants
• Provide care for injuries and acute health concerns

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a NLNAC or CCNE-accredited school of nursing
• Current valid Wisconsin RN license
• CPR/AED certification
• Experience working cross-culturally or commitment to improving cultural competence
• Previous school nurse experience or experience in a hospital or clinic setting

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing or related field
• National School Nurse Certification
