About the role

The School Monitor ensures the safety and security of youth participants, staff, and property during UAU programming. This role involves maintaining order, enforcing school rules, and protecting school premises without providing instructional classroom assistance. Supervision is focused on student conduct in restrooms, hallways, and stairwells.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol school halls, stairwells, restrooms, and other areas to protect persons and property, maintain order, and ensure compliance with rules.
  • Question non-students or staff on school premises, advise them of school rules, and direct visitors to offices or ask them to leave.
  • Report daily to the Program Director and Assistant Program Director on problems, incidents, and conditions verbally or in writing.
  • Monitor and supervise bus loading and accompany buses on routes or field trips to prevent discipline issues.
  • Inform school personnel of ongoing student behavior and related issues.
  • Escort and assist students to assigned areas.
  • Perform daily setup and cleanup duties in alignment with Department of Health regulations and UAU policies.
  • Abide by all safety protocols outlined by the Department of Health, OCFS, DYCD, and UAU.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years old (required).
  • High School diploma or GED (required).
  • Matriculated college student or higher from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience working with adolescents (preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience in a school-based setting.
  • Commitment to a strength-based perspective.
  • Culturally competent with the ability to interact effectively across cultures and age groups.
  • Must pass reference checks and background screenings as designated by DOH, DOE, DYCD, and UAU.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally required to stand, sit, walk, or run based on programmatic needs.
  • Involves sitting approximately 30% of the day and walking or standing for the remainder.
  • Must remain in a stationary position for at least 20% of the time.
  • May require prolonged standing and walking (up to 95% of the day).
  • Ability to communicate information clearly to others.
  • Must be able to observe details at close range.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors based on weather conditions.

Pay

$17.50 per hour (based on city, state, and/or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances).

Schedule

Approximately 20 hours per week, in-person at Staten Island, NY.
