School Educator II - Murdoch Dev Center

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is a large agency responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of North Carolinians. This position is located at Murdoch Developmental Center within the Bonnie Springer School, focusing on students with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and serious behavioral challenges.

Responsibilities

• Conducting educational assessments and preparing written educational evaluations on all assigned children.
• Developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Extended Content Standards.
• Designing the classroom environment to promote independence and positive behaviors based on team recommendations.
• Administering required tests, writing lesson plans, and systematically recording and analyzing student performance data.
• Maintaining and reinforcing learned skills through maintenance activities.
• Setting up training areas, obtaining necessary materials, and monitoring goal progress.
• Modeling classroom expectations to Youth Program Educational Assistants (YPEA) support staff.
• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, attending meetings, and sharing individual data and skills.
• Completing identified paperwork in a timely manner, understanding ICF/MR regulations, and assisting the specialized services treatment team upon request.
• Reporting directly to and being administratively and clinically supervised by the Director of Educational Services/Principal.
• Must report or stay overnight during adverse weather events.

Requirements

This position requires a Master’s degree level preferred but Bachelor’s degree level candidates will be considered. Knowledge of instructional strategies for students with Autism, structured teaching approaches, NC Extended Content Standards, ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, proficient writing skills, experience in teaching students with autism and other disabilities, knowledge in applied behavioral analysis (ABA), and other research-based techniques for working with individuals with autism and other disabilities.
