SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD

About the role

The purpose of this classification is to ensure a safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians throughout school zones.

Responsibilities

• Assist children and adults at school street crossings
• Expedite the movement of children and traffic to and from the school
• This position only works during the regular school calendar and while school is in session
• Incumbent usually works 10-20 hours per week
• Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required
• Completion of the Henry County Police Training Division Traffic Direction Training (one day course)

Skills

• Basic law enforcement traffic direction skills
• Knowledge of hand and whistle signals
• Ability to deal courteously with the general public
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions
• Must learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
