School Bus Monitor

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Accompany the school bus driver on the regularly scheduled route as approved and assigned by the school district
• Affiliate with the driver in managing student behavior to ensure student safety
• Affiliate with the driver in managing the loading and unloading of physically disabled or non-ambulatory students as needed
• Affiliate with the driver in managing special seats, restraining devices or medical aids required by students
• Affiliate with the driver in managing student emergencies and bus evacuation as necessary
• Maintain confidentiality of student personal and medical information
• Direct other work-related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Successfully complete any company, state, federal required training and recertification
• Effectively manage student behavior in a non-confrontational manner
• Manage vehicle and student emergencies in a calm, appropriate manner
• Successfully complete all background checks required by company or school district upon hire and ongoing requirements

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Physical Requirements: Sitting for 4-6 hours per day, Hearing adequate for general traffic conditions, traffic signals, emergency vehicles and monitoring and using vehicle communication equipment, Range of motion adequate for assisting students with boarding and exiting vehicle and for securing students for transport, Ability to climb steps of bus and sufficient mobility to access vehicle emergency exits, Ability to push & pull with up to 40 lbs. of force
