Scheduling Specialist - GYN Oncology Services

About the role

Mercy Health seeks a Scheduling Specialist to join the Medical Office Building 1 team at St. Vincent Medical Center. This position coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, interacts with various healthcare providers, and maintains accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and patients to schedule tests, procedures, and pre-certification.
• Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system and updates demographic and insurance information.
• Provides instructions to patients and physician office staff regarding test preparation.
• Answers questions about testing, scheduling, and test preparation.
• Refers patients to specialty areas as needed.
• Checks for medical necessity during scheduling.
• Schedules stat patients and coordinates with multiple facilities or departments.
• Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested.
• Handles administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data relay.
• Promotes a positive customer focus and handles calls professionally.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred)
• Experience with data entry (preferred)
• Typing speed of 45-50 WPM (preferred)

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
