Scheduling Specialist - GYN Oncology Services
About the role
Mercy Health seeks a Scheduling Specialist to join the Medical Office Building 1 team at St. Vincent Medical Center. This position coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, interacts with various healthcare providers, and maintains accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and patients to schedule tests, procedures, and pre-certification.
- Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system and updates demographic and insurance information.
- Provides instructions to patients and physician office staff regarding test preparation and scheduling.
- Refers patients to specialty areas and resolves discrepancies in scheduling.
- Obtains approval for non-routine appointments and checks for medical necessity at the time of scheduling.
- Schedules stat patients and coordinates with multiple facilities or departments to ensure timely patient scheduling.
- Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested by the department supervisor.
- Handles administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data relay as needed.
- Promotes a strong customer focus and handles calls with professionalism.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred)
- Experience with data entry (preferred)
- Typing speed of 45-50 WPM (preferred)
