Position Summary
The Scheduling Specialist will receive requests for procedures, coordinate exam times per protocol with convenience considered for the patients and departments. Collect and validate high quality Patient Demographics, Guarantor Insurance info, Authorizations, Resource availability, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9 codes. Develops a relationship with various physician offices and maintains open communications.
Education
- High School Diploma - Preferred
- 1-2 Years medical office terminology - Required
- 1-2 Years Demonstrated ability to work under stress.
- Ability to follow written protocol/procedures/policies - Preferred
- 1-2 Years Demonstrated exceptional service in-person and over the phone; think critically, multi-task and work - Preferred
- 1-2 Years EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and RIS (Radiology Information Systems) - Preferred
- Medical Assistant/Secretary, Unit Secretary, Surgical Technician, Imaging Support Specialist or Imaging Scheduler - Preferred.
Core Job Functions
- Ensures accurate scheduling, rescheduling, cancellations and verification of the patients appointment with the correct MD, modality, special equipment and studies.
- Repeats appointment date, time and location prior to ending call.
- Schedules interpreters for patients as needed.
- Maintains department production and quality standards.
- Communicates timely with the appropriate department/staff all pertinent appointment information.
- Effectively provides patient's and physician office staff scheduling guidelines and protocols.
- Verifies MD written orders via RtFa.
- Compliant with accessing and extracting confidential patient information for acquiring insurance authorizations.
- Clear, precise communication.
- Answers telephones and call lights, screening and prioritizing.
- Assists Nurses and Resource Coordinator with communication with doctor's offices.
- Obtains appropriate documentation and forms for surgical charts.
