About the role
The Scheduling Coordinator at Keck Medicine of USC is responsible for scheduling patient appointments, follow-ups, and surgeries in the assigned unit/clinic. They ensure that patients receive the necessary testing and services, validate financial clearance, and coordinate with ancillary departments.
Responsibilities
- Schedules patient appointments and surgeries in the assigned unit/clinic.
- Obtains authorizations and pre-authorizations for services to be rendered.
- Schedules ancillary appointments as necessary for patients.
- Ensures patient charts are prepared prior to appointments/follow-up and/or surgery, including x-rays and pertinent lab work.
- Makes arrangements for any special equipment as needed.
- Reviews and codes charge slips for patient care services and/or surgical services rendered.
- Maintains files and records, including supporting documentation for insurance claims.
- Maintains master appointment/surgery calendar for physician(s).
- Oversees equipment and office supply inventory.
- Reads all incoming mail, prioritizing and distributing as appropriate.
- Acts as a liaison with other departments and physician office staff, arranging for necessary support services and equipment.
- Answers patient phone calls, verifies insurance benefits, prepares charts for clinic, and provides clerical functions for the Beverly Hills Clinic.
- Works with any and every physician in the Beverly Hills Clinic.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Prior experience in a clerical, administrative, and/or receptionist role.
- One year of experience with surgical coordination.
- Six months of prior experience with surgical authorizations.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
- Comfortable with computers and medical terminology.
- In-depth knowledge of all insurance types.
- Working knowledge of scheduling coordination within or supporting the surgical departments.
Qualifications
- Must have a working knowledge of computer systems, e.g., Cerner and GE Centricity Business.
- Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in entering information into computer systems.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team setting to accomplish duties in a timely manner.
- Must maintain an open line of communication with management, providers, hospital staff, and other staff.

Pay
The hourly rate range for this position is $22.00 - $37.40.
