About the role

The Scheduler performs clerical and communication functions in the department/clinic, serving as the first point of contact for all patients. This position provides a consistent, superior customer service experience in accordance with the Center's mission and vision, ensuring smooth operations and patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the positive “face” of the Health Center as the main point of contact for participants and families.
  • Support center operations by greeting and checking in patients at the front desk, scheduling appointments, and performing other front desk functions.
  • Schedule appointments, confirm patient availability, and review appointment details (date, time, location, and provider name) for accuracy.
  • Act as an advocate/liaison for patients and the Health Center, supporting the continuum of care as appropriate.
  • Answer telephone promptly and in a polite, professional manner; direct calls to other departments as needed.
  • Use sound judgment in handling calls, especially with upset patients, and escalate when necessary.
  • Maintain all delegated worklists (tasks) through the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure effective, efficient, and safe use of equipment.
  • Handle patient requests and questions appropriately.
  • Provide benefit plan and eligibility information to participants, providers, unions, employers, and others.
  • Adhere to Culinary Health Center and Jayakumar NV PC policies and procedures.
  • Perform duties as care coordinator when assigned.
  • Register new patients, verify insurance, and review new patient referrals/authorizations for adequate coding.
  • Perform various office duties including filing, sorting, and other administrative tasks.
  • Work with all physicians in the Department/Clinic.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Ability to interview patients and interface with physicians, nurses, and other professional staff.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) certification; if not held upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days and maintained by renewal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience in customer service, preferably in a medical environment.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $21.00 - $29.77.
