About the Role
The Scheduler performs all routine clerical tasks and schedules all exams and procedures for hospital-based services, including:
- Outpatient diagnostic and interventional procedures
- Initial therapy evaluations
- Surgical cases (excluding same-day cases)
- Initial requests for clinic visits
- Referrals and services for inpatients, ordered at discharge, to be provided post-discharge
- Scheduled admissions for future dates

Responsibilities
- Coordinates all patient care procedures as the initial patient liaison via telephone and direct patient contact for hospital-based exams and procedures.
- Reviews and maintains patient care information.
- Completes patients' medical and/or insurance files from initial interviews and distributes files according to departmental policies.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare environment (required).
- 1-3 years of scheduling experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of general business operations, scheduling, insurance, and coding.
- Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials (e.g., letters of medical necessity, insurance payment appeals, patient records).
- Typing speed of 35 words per minute.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology (preferred).
- Knowledge of basic computer operations (acquired through work experience or education).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain workflow control.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Physical Demands
- Light work: exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- Physical activities may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Good balance and coordination required.
- Close visual acuity needed for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
- Job functions are typically performed in general office or administrative work conditions; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
