Scene Shop Supervisor - Theatre and Dance
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the scene shop
- Oversee and participate in construction of scenery, stage rigging, sound engineering, electrics, scene painting, and welding
- Coordinate or supervise coordination of properties for all main stage productions
- Assist in planning and organizing projects
- Conduct routine general maintenance, provide upkeep of shop machinery, and provide inventory management
- Assist with scenery installations and strikes of all conservatory productions
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma and 7 years of professional experience as a carpenter and/or stagehand OR Bachelor's Degree and significant professional experience as a carpenter and /or stagehand
- Demonstrated rigging skills
- Demonstrated electrical and sound skills
- Experience in properties
- Experience or desire to learn welding
- Ability to follow proper usage of equipment and enforce safety standards
- Demonstrated supervisory skills
- Excellent communication skills with ability and willingness to train students of various levels of proficiency
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong collaboration skills, working with professional staff and faculty
- Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours
- Ability to adhere to strict production schedule and meet deadlines
About the Role
The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University seeks a Scene Shop Supervisor to join our team. This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the scene shop, overseeing construction of scenery, stage rigging, sound engineering, electrics, scene painting, and welding. The supervisor also coordinates or supervises coordination of properties for all main stage productions, assists in project planning and organization, conducts routine maintenance, and assists with scenery installations and strikes.
