About the role

The SBA Servicing Specialist supports the ongoing servicing, documentation, compliance, and portfolio management of SBA loans. This role works closely with loan officers, borrowers, internal departments, and third-party partners to ensure SBA loans are closed, serviced, monitored, reported, and maintained in accordance with Bank policy, SBA requirements, and applicable SOP guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with loan officers, borrowers, and related third parties to service and monitor the SBA portfolio.
  • Verify required loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Bank policy and SBA requirements before closing.
  • Review, prepare, and maintain SBA loan files to meet Bank and SBA standards.
  • Understand and apply SBA servicing, liquidation, and origination SOPs in daily work.
  • Stay current with SBA eligibility rules, SOP revisions, Bank procedures, and required training.
  • Serve as a responsive resource for borrowers by assisting with wires, online banking issues, automatic payments, loan questions, payoff quotes, and other account servicing needs.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to borrower, officer, and third-party inquiries received by phone or email.
  • Prepare and send notices related to payments, late payments, rate changes, entity renewals, loan maturities, documentation requests, and other servicing requirements.
  • Support SBA loan sales, sold loan remittance, SBA 1502 reporting, ongoing SBA fee payments, and audit support as assigned.
  • Prepare Purchase Demand Kits and assist with SBA guaranty-related servicing requirements.
  • Re-amortize all SBA loans at least annually and manage weekly amortized fee activity.
  • Audit SBA loan files prior to closing to confirm documentation accuracy, exception clearance, collateral status, and compliance with Bank and SBA standards.
  • Monitor loan ticklers, annual property tax reviews, business license renewals, insurance renewals, lease renewals, financial documentation, and other portfolio maintenance items.
  • Manage Tax Guard, CAIVRS, SAMs, E-Oscar credit issues, record retention, late fee waivers or refunds, paid-off loan processing, collateral releases, DMV communications, title issuance, and refinanced collateral release follow-up.
  • Review delinquent taxes and notify officers as appropriate; support loan reviews conducted by the Bank and outside auditors.
  • Collaborate effectively with loan officers, portfolio managers, credit administration, operations, auditors, and third-party partners.
  • Contribute to a service-oriented, detail-focused team environment by sharing knowledge, following through on commitments, and supporting department priorities.
  • Ensure SBA loan servicing activities are completed in accordance with applicable SBA SOPs, Bank policies, documentation standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Identify documentation gaps, servicing exceptions, collateral issues, and compliance concerns; escalate and follow through to resolution.
  • Support SBA audit preparation and response by maintaining accurate files, records, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Use Bank systems, SBA platforms, reporting tools, and portfolio tracking processes to maintain accurate loan records and timely servicing activity.
  • Recommend process improvements, job aids, and documentation practices that improve accuracy, efficiency, compliance, and the borrower experience.
  • Support UCCU’s SBA lending strategy by helping maintain a sound, compliant, and well-serviced SBA portfolio.
  • Represent the organization with professionalism, accuracy, urgency, and a commitment to helping members and business borrowers succeed.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience in commercial lending, SBA loan servicing, loan operations, portfolio management, loan review, or compliance support.
  • Working knowledge of SBA lending requirements, servicing actions, liquidation concepts, loan documentation, collateral tracking, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Ability to read, review, and validate loan documentation with strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to assist borrowers, officers, auditors, and third-party partners professionally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use Bank systems, SBA platforms, reporting tools, and tracking processes.

  • Borrowers, loan officers, auditors, and internal partners receive responsive, professional, and knowledgeable support.
  • Portfolio monitoring activities identify issues early and support timely resolution of documentation, collateral, tax, licensing, insurance, and compliance concerns.
  • SBA reporting, sold loan support, remittance activity, and audit support are handled with accuracy, consistency, and strong attention to detail.
