About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced SAP Basis Specialist to support the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) in an advanced technical support and architecture role for their enterprise SAP ecosystem. This role is critical to ensuring a stable, scalable, and reliable computing environment across SMUD's SAP platforms, including ECC, CRM, BW, BusinessObjects (BOBJ), Process Orchestration (PO), Fiori, C/4 HANA, SAP BTP/CPI, and SuccessFactors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for the full SAP ecosystem, including 24/7 on-call and after-hours support as required.
  • Lead primary SAP BASIS administration for major enterprise applications, with secondary support for others.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, acting as the primary point of contact for outages and performance problems.
  • Schedule and coordinate SAP system installs, upgrades, patches, backups, and restorations.
  • Perform OS, application, database, and client tool patching and migrations; fully test patches in non-production environments before deployment.
  • Configure systems and applications to align with SMUD technical standards.
  • Ensure application availability per Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Perform system sizing and capacity planning.
  • Act as vendor liaison for bug fixes and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for SAP system administration, including architecture, backup policies, and user management.
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor batch jobs and scripts, resolving related errors.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
  • Provide status updates and progress reports to SMUD management.
  • Interface with business units and application users for support and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Five (5)+ years of progressively responsible IT experience administering SAP BASIS in a comparable enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP enterprise solutions: installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination.
  • In-depth knowledge of SAP system design, configuration, and functionality.
  • Hands-on experience with AIX, UNIX, Linux, Windows, DB2, and MS SQL across SAP ECC6, S/4HANA, BW/BI, CRM, BOBJ, PO, BPC, HANA, C/4 HANA, SAP BTP, SuccessFactors, Cloud Connector, Fiori/Gateway, and Web Dispatcher.
  • Experience with Solution Manager and SAP Cloud ALM.
  • Availability to attend meetings between 8am and 5pm (Pacific Time).

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Preferred: 5+ years as SAP BASIS supporting SAP ABAP and JAVA systems.
  • Preferred: Expert-level use of Solution Manager for monitoring and project documentation.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in SAP system refresh processes (native SAP and tools such as LAMA, SAP PCA).
  • Preferred: Experience administering NetWeaver Java solutions (Adobe Document Services, PO, Web Dispatcher, SLD).
  • Preferred: Experience with SAP change management (CTS+, non-ABAP and cloud solutions).
  • Preferred: SAP system administration experience in DB2/AIX and RHEL environments.

Pay

Salary Range: $150.00 - $170.00/hour
