About the role
The Sanitor is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing food processing equipment, production areas, and facility environments in compliance with FDA regulations, cGMPs, and company sanitation standards. This role ensures food safety, prevents contamination, and supports audit readiness.
Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning and sanitation per Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
- Operate and monitor CIP systems, ensuring correct chemical concentrations, temperatures, flow rates, and cycle times
- Safely mix and apply chemicals following SDS and manufacturer guidelines
- Disassemble/reassemble equipment for COP (Clean-Out-of-Place) where required
- Conduct pre-operational inspections to verify cleanliness prior to production startup
- Clean drains, floors, walls, ceilings, and overhead structures to control contamination risks
- Support allergen changeover cleaning and validation
- Maintain sanitation logs, CIP records, and verification documentation
- Identify and report sanitation deficiencies, equipment issues, or food safety risks
- Follow all PPE requirements and safety procedures
Regulatory & Compliance Responsibilities
- Comply with: FDA FSMA requirements, Facility HACCP / Preventive Controls programs
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits
- Participate in ongoing sanitation and food safety training
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Sanitation Effectiveness: ATP/Protein swab pass rates (target: ≥ 95–98%)
- Environmental monitoring results within acceptable limits
- Pre-op inspection pass rate (first-pass approval ≥ 95%)
- CIP Performance: CIP cycles completed accurately and on schedule (≥ 98% compliance)
- CIP documentation accuracy (100% completion)
- Reduction in re-clean or rewash events
- Audit & Compliance: Minimal to zero major findings from internal/external audits
- GMP compliance adherence (no critical violations)
- Efficiency & Productivity: Completion of sanitation tasks within scheduled timeframe
- Downtime reduction due to sanitation delays
- Chemical usage within standard targets (cost control & correct dosing)
- Safety: Zero recordable safety incidents related to sanitation activities
- Proper PPE usage (100% compliance)
- Safe chemical handling and storage adherence
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 1–3 years sanitation experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience with CIP systems strongly preferred
- Knowledge of FDA regulations, GMPs, and sanitation practices
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, SSOPs, and safety procedures
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and food safety awareness
- Understanding of contamination control and hygienic design
- Mechanical aptitude for equipment disassembly and CIP systems
- Able to document and track sanitation activities accurately
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills
- Able to learn how to breakdown and re-build: Wilden Pumps PD pumps, Portable foamers
- Able to operate Scissor lift
- Able to enter confined spaces
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and reaching
- Comfortable handling sanitation chemicals and equipment
