Sanitation Technician- Trainee
About the Role
Responsible for sanitation of a processing plant with emphasis on the production area and processing lines such as packaging and evisceration. Ensures complete removal of all product and by-product material and total sanitation of the area during the shift to produce the highest quality products in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Remove screens and covers from processing equipment for cleaning purposes.
- Operate a high-pressure hot water spray gun to rinse off food particles and remove foamed chemical compounds.
- Operate a mechanical foaming unit to apply chemical cleaning compounds.
- Apply knowledge of chemicals used for cleaning and their appropriate areas of use.
- Hand scrub areas not completely cleaned with foaming cleaner using scouring pads and cleaners.
- Rinse processing equipment, floors, and ceilings with a high-volume cold-water rinse.
- Use airplane brushes to clean painted surfaces.
- Operate conveyors, chill tanks, and machines as needed for cleaning, with safety as the main concern.
- Remove and soak white plastic conveyors and boning boards in cleaning solutions.
- Perform processing work on occasion.
- Communicate with fellow employees to complete tasks and adhere to safety standards.
- Inspect all plant areas to ensure complete sanitation.
- Remove product from various machines and ensure proper waste removal, inspecting that no waste remains in machines, floors, walls, ceilings, or any plant area.
- Maintain an understanding of plant equipment operations and belt lifts.
- Ensure equipment is properly turned off per safety protocols before cleaning or removing waste product.
- Alert maintenance or management when equipment appears defective or does not meet safety standards.
- Ensure cleanliness of area equipment and adherence to food safety standards.
- Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Complete all safety and equipment handling procedures, including Hotsy equipment handling procedures.
- Maintain appropriate housekeeping and sanitation procedures within the plant.
- Provide prompt, friendly, and courteous service to internal and external customers.
- Pursue sustainability by decreasing waste and being conscious of individual choices.
- Advocate positive change within the plant and company, empowering one another.
- Perform other duties as required.

Work Environment
This job operates in an industrial processing plant environment, which is refrigerated, cold, and humid. The position requires standing for long periods of time and working in inside environmental conditions with protection from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Physical Demands
- Lift 75 pounds occasionally and regularly carry and lift 50 pounds.
- Stand for long periods of time in a cold and damp environment.
- Wear PPE such as rubber pants, rain slicker, and slip-resistant rubber boots.
- Frequent walking or moving to accomplish tasks.
- Sustained periods of standing.
- Visual inspection tasks.
- Occasional stooping and reaching.
- Manual dexterity, climbing ladders, and crawling under equipment.
- Occasional pushing and pulling using upper extremities.
- Regular lifting requirements.
- Frequent feeling of products to perceive attributes such as size, shape, temperature, or texture.
- Repetitive motions involving substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Schedule
Full-time position, 5 days a week with some weekend availability required. Expected hours: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM. Hours may vary based on the needs of the plant and the speed of work performed.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with leadership and co-workers.
- High school education preferred.
- Experience in food manufacturing or an industrial plant preferred.
- Experience in sanitation preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
