About the role
The Sanitation Supervisor oversees all sanitation activities within the facility to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, company standards, and customer requirements. This role leads Sanitation personnel, ensuring effective cleaning and sanitation of processing areas and facility infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and schedule sanitation team members to ensure all sanitation tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on time in accordance with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
- Create and maintain KPIs for MSS and CIP (Clean-In-Place) effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations and standards, including USDA, GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, and customer audit requirements.
- Oversee cleaning and sanitizing of processing areas and facility infrastructure, using problem-solving and analytical skills to address sanitation challenges and improve effectiveness.
- Verify proper use, handling, and storage of sanitation chemicals; ensure accurate chemical concentrations and documentation.
- Perform an annual CIP validation program for every piece of equipment in the plant.
- Support the Quality department with the Environmental Monitoring Program to ensure areas reported with presumptive contamination are scheduled for cleaning, completed, documented, and, if necessary, corrected and re-tested.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures related to sanitation.
- Maintain sanitation records, logs, and documentation required for audits and inspections.
- Apply root cause analysis and critical-thinking skills to investigate sanitation deviations, audit findings, and recurring issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Hydrite representatives, and Operations to collaboratively solve sanitation-related problems involving equipment design, repairs, or cleaning effectiveness.
- Enforce safety policies, including lockout/tagout, confined space, chemical safety, and PPE requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to sanitation efficiency, food safety, and employee training.
- Manage employee relations, addressing complaints, conducting evaluations, and providing motivation, coaching, discipline, and recognition as needed. Clearly define and communicate department goals.
- Participate actively in hiring and onboarding processes.
- Backfill other positions as needed.
