About the Role

As a Salon Business Consultant, you will serve as a consulting and relationship-building solution specialist, covering and growing a territory in and around Owatonna, Worthington, Jackson, Faribault, Albert Lea, and New Prague, Minnesota (MN). This full-time role offers uncapped commission, a vehicle reimbursement plan, and full benefits. Salon or beauty industry experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Grow the business by identifying key accounts within your territory and establishing an efficient route to develop existing customers while seeking new partnerships.
  • Demonstrate and assist customers in developing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and tracking results of in-salon promotions, programs, and concepts.
  • Determine customers’ needs and offer products and services to meet those needs.
  • Communicate all sales initiatives by partnering with vendors to achieve corporate sales goals on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Acknowledge and respond to all email, text, and phone communication within 24 hours.
  • Analyze accounts to decide what brand support, education, and promotions are needed to grow within each salon.
  • Call on customers in person to execute established sales goals.
  • Strictly comply with established procedures for processing returns, including pick-up and documentation.
  • Complete assignments and projects in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other business areas such as customer service, accounts receivable, and IT.
  • Actively prospect for new customers through cold calling, social media, and other digital outlets.
  • Manage all administrative aspects of the role, including daily order entry and maintenance of customer information in salesforce.com.
  • Utilize social media to attract and retain salon clientele through communication, promotion, education, and product knowledge.
  • Conduct effective in-person and virtual product knowledge classes.
  • Communicate with your Manager regarding calls, visits, orders, sales progress, follow-up plans, and any assistance needed.
  • Be a subject matter expert on digital platforms and social media to grow the business and share knowledge with peers.
  • Attend all meetings, functions, and events as required by the Company or Supervisor.
  • Participate in trade shows, including setup, dismantling, and other physical activities as needed.
  • Support new initiatives with a growth mindset and foster positive change management within the team.
  • Exhibit a desire to learn and grow, striving for continuous improvement in digital and social media techniques.
  • Schedule and attend business development days (BDD) to increase product knowledge and develop vendor relationships.
  • Allocate time for learning using all available tools and resources.
  • Remain agile to market changes and build industry knowledge to react competitively.
  • Increase your own product, industry, and market knowledge.
  • Create an organized work environment and workflow to efficiently service customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated outside sales experience or beauty industry experience with an emphasis on consultative selling.
  • Must live within the assigned territory (Owatonna, Worthington, Jackson, Albert Lea, or nearby).
  • Working knowledge of inventory control systems and visual merchandising is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media platforms for business growth.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in salesforce.com, Outlook, PDF Expert, and Oracle. Experience with iPad is a plus.
  • Ability to build an online community and create social connections using search engines and other internet tools.
  • Must have a vehicle for traveling throughout the territory.
  • Ability to travel locally within the territory and attend shows, conventions, and educational events, which may include overnight travel and weekend commitments.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Frequent and sometimes prolonged periods of driving are necessary.
  • Committed to working scheduled hours with flexibility to work additional hours based on business needs.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to present a professional business image and interact positively with the public.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, at all levels within and outside the organization.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, residences, or commercial vehicles.
  • Activities include sitting, driving, standing, walking, bending and twisting the neck, bending the waist, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching with hands and arms, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
