About the role
We are seeking a professional to join our global tax function as an expert in sales tax preparation. Your work will protect the company from compliance risks, optimize tax processes, and ensure smooth, hassle-free customer transactions. This role drives timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, and insight across the sales tax lifecycle while partnering cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and Accounting teams. You will interpret new sales tax rules, identify risks and opportunities, and help drive returns to completion. Success requires strong tax expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and an aptitude for process improvement in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of multi-state sales and use tax returns.
- Reconcile sales tax accounts monthly, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Research and interpret state and local tax laws to ensure compliance and identify potential savings opportunities.
- Maintain exemption certificate records and respond to customer and auditor requests.
- Partner with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Operations to ensure tax is applied correctly on invoices and purchases.
- Support sales tax audits by gathering documentation and preparing responses.
- Continuously improve processes by leveraging tax automation tools (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. An advanced degree in Taxation and a CPA license is ideal.
- 3-5+ years of experience in accounting or sales tax.
- Advanced Excel data analysis skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros, data visualization, and power query.
- Systems knowledge, including familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems; experience with Vertex or Avalara is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with professionals of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Strong time management and organization skills to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership team to solve complex problems innovatively.

Pay
The estimated starting compensation range for this role is $88,000 – $112,000 USD, based on skills, experience, education, and geographic location. Actual compensation may vary.
