About the role
The Sales Representative – General Construction is responsible for representing machine sales products in a defined geographic territory with the ultimate goal of sale, lease purchase, or rental of these products. This position targets sales prospecting and sales to new customers in the agricultural, ranching, and general contractor market. The role is part of a collaborative sales team that upholds the company’s mission, core values, and shared business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with the company’s Vision, Values, and Mission.
- Identifies and initiates contact with, and influences, potential buyers in a manner consistent with the mission statement and core values to meet or exceed territorial and corporate business goals.
- Sources and grows sales with new business opportunities and develops new customers.
- Obtains, diagnoses, and responds to specific customer needs to enhance service quality, satisfaction, and mutually beneficial relationships.
- Promotes products and services to the existing customer base while expanding that base to achieve territorial and organizational business goals.
- Creates and submits accurate and timely sales‑related reports and documentation to support business goals.
- Meets all sales‑related key metrics within the review period.
- Contributes to the development, monitoring, and control of the sales forecast and expenses within the assigned territory to meet or exceed business goals.
- Completes special projects as requested by the Regional Sales Manager to address changing company needs.
- Travels to and from customer locations.
- Works safely at all times, adhering to applicable safety policies and all company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Schedule
50+ hours a week, including late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of selling techniques (prospecting, overcoming objections, closing sales).
- Excellent selling, negotiating, and closing skills with the ability to build long‑term business relationships.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to analyze new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Logical reasoning to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and thorough completion of work tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for establishing relationships across multiple departments and organizational levels.
- First‑class organizational, multi‑tasking, and time‑management skills; deadline oriented.
- Effective written communication for work‑related documents.
- Quick and accurate mathematical computations (percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Capability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

- Familiarity with CAT products, product support services, and programs.
- Knowledge of inventory management and processes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field preferred.
- Minimum three years of relevant work experience; six years or more preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with extensive driving required; overnight travel required.
- Physical ability to perform extended periods in a stationary position, occasional movement, and frequent manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina; ability to react to visual, auditory, and other signals.
- Ability to work in a professional office environment with controlled conditions, operating a computer, and performing repetitive motions.
