About the Role

The Outside Sales Representative generates sales of new and used whole-good equipment across all product lines. This role builds and maintains relationships with current and prospective customers while promoting the full range of company offerings, including parts, service, and precision technology solutions. You’ll drive customer satisfaction, market growth, and business success through professional, knowledgeable, and solution-oriented sales practices.

Responsibilities

  • Secure and finalize all sales transactions, ensuring complete and accurate information is provided to the Regional Manager
  • Maintain regular contact with customers before, during, and after the sale to ensure satisfaction and foster long-term relationships within assigned territory
  • Provide current and prospective customers with information on products, services, and value-added solutions
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly sales meetings; contribute ideas and feedback to support a collaborative and effective sales team
  • Maintain a detailed log of customer inquiries and completed sales for tracking and follow-up using our CRM system
  • Attend educational seminars, trade shows, and industry events to expand product knowledge, enhance selling techniques, and develop business contacts
  • Stay current on inventory levels and product availability to ensure accurate customer communication
  • Promote and sell the full range of Service Motor Company products and services within assigned territory
  • Achieve sales goals and gross profit margins as established by the Regional Manager

Requirements

  • Associate degree or 2-year Technical Degree in a related field; 1-3 years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4-year Technical Degree in a related field; 3-5 years of related experience (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to drive a company vehicle

  • Knowledge of customer needs, equipment (Agricultural, Construction, and/or Consumer), agronomy practices, precision agriculture technologies, and/or telematics
  • Prior experience providing technical support, product demonstrations, or equipment training

Work Environment

The Outside Sales Representative role is dynamic and customer-focused, involving a combination of office, dealership, and field settings. This position regularly requires:

  • Frequent travel to customer sites, including farms, construction sites, and job locations, which may expose you to outdoor weather conditions and rough terrain
  • Time spent in dealership locations, including showrooms, shop areas, and parts departments, interacting with service and parts teams
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises, moving equipment, dust, grease, and other typical shop or job site conditions
  • Use of a company vehicle or personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) for travel throughout the assigned territory
  • A fast-paced, goal-driven environment requiring flexibility, self-direction, and strong time management
  • Standard working hours with occasional evenings or weekends for customer meetings, trade shows, or promotional events

This role requires adaptability, professionalism, and a commitment to safety and customer service in varied and sometimes challenging environments.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, including on uneven surfaces such as shop floors, farm fields, or construction sites
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to operate a computer, phone, and occasionally demonstrate equipment functions
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 30 pounds (e.g., product literature, displays, light tools, or parts)
  • Ability to drive for extended periods, including regional travel to customer locations, trade shows, and events
  • Occasional bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing (e.g., to inspect equipment or navigate around machinery)
  • Tolerance to varying weather conditions, as the role may require time spent outdoors in hot, cold, or wet environments
  • Clear vision and hearing (corrected if necessary) to safely interact with equipment, read labels/information, and communicate effectively with customers and coworkers
