Sales Representative
Fairchild Equipment was founded in 1985 as Yale Materials Handling. Under the leadership of Gary Fairchild, we diversified our manufacturers to add trusted brands, expanded our service areas to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, North Dakota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and grew from a five-person operation to over 280 employees. Now led by Chad Fairchild, the company remains family-owned while pursuing further growth.
About the role
As our Sales Representative, you will work with existing customers and develop new business relationships within your assigned territory. You will sell new and used forklifts and other material handling equipment while maintaining and strengthening market share. This is a full-time, exempt outside sales position based out of our Moorhead, Minnesota branch.
Responsibilities
- Maintain existing business and generate new business within the assigned North Dakota territory.
- Sell new and used forklifts, other material handling equipment, and warehouse products.
- Establish, develop, and strengthen relationships with current and prospective customers.
- Promote, sell, and secure orders for Yale and Hyster product lines.
- Demonstrate products and services that best meet customer needs.
- Develop proposals and quotations for current and prospective customers.
- Analyze territory potential and assess the value of existing and prospective accounts.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve aggressive sales goals.
- Provide management with reports on customer needs, issues, competitive activity, and opportunities for new services.
- Prepare daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
- Partner with Business Development Representatives and Sales Coordinators to ensure high customer service for both current and prospective customers.
- Attend all sales department meetings and company functions as required.
- Maintain strong organizational skills, including the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with customers and Fairchild Equipment personnel.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- 2+ years of forklift sales experience preferred.
- 3+ years of outside business-to-business sales experience required.
- Knowledge of forklift/heavy equipment industry.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with confidential information, strong work ethic, reliability, teamwork, and flexibility.
- Ability to work in a high-paced environment.
- Travel throughout assigned territory and/or Fairchild Equipment footprint; 80% annually.
Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
- Frequent physical activities: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and climbing.
- Occasional physical activities: balancing and perceiving attributes of objects by touch.
- Visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, visual inspection, using measurement devices, and assembling parts.
- Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions, occasionally in narrow aisles or passageways.
