About the role
At Ulta Beauty, the Sales Manager (SM) leads a team of Beauty Advisors, Prestige Beauty Advisors, and Lead Cashiers, accountable for all aspects of the retail business—excluding boutiques—including sales, service, and operational processes. The SM drives top-line sales growth, exceptional guest experiences, and Net Promoter Score (NPS) performance while fostering an inclusive, high-performing team.
Responsibilities
- Performance: Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta Beauty’s goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink. Drive profitability by identifying underperforming metrics and developing strategies using company programs, tools, and resources. Plan and execute in-store events that enhance guest experience and collaboration with brand partners. Review and react to financial and operational reporting, including store visit and audit results. Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and guest service.
- People: Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team; build a highly engaged, inclusive environment. Support associate development through training, coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and individual development plans. Establish professional brand partner relationships and model a culture of teamwork and guest service excellence.
- Process: Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Use scheduling and task management tools to prioritize workload, including product resets, pricing updates, inventory tasks, cleaning, and replenishment. Protect company assets by enforcing workplace safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss prevention. Support continuous improvement by influencing adoption of company initiatives and technology.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 2–3+ years of fast-paced retail management or relevant work experience, including financial management (driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, controlling expenses), retail management (monitoring inventory, achieving operational excellence, driving service culture, executing merchandising directives), and leadership management (attracting, developing, and motivating top talent, adapting to change, leading teams).
- Skills: Proficient with basic technology (POS systems, Microsoft Office, Apple devices); excellent written and verbal communication; strong collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills; ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and adapt flexibly.
Special Position Requirements
- Work a flexible, full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Attend corporate business meetings and conferences.
Working Conditions
- Continuous mobility, twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, reaching, and twisting during shift.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs.
- Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
