Join us as our SMERF Sales Manager, a relationship builder, travel advisor, destination developer, client relationship manager, and Greater Green Bay champion all rolled into one. Success in this role is about relationships, collaboration, and accountability. You’ll connect planners, hotels, hospitality partners, and opportunities to make BIG things happen.

Responsible for generating business from the social, sports, military, education, religious, and fraternal (SMERF) markets as well as the international and group markets including tour operators, travel agents, AAA offices, and related sectors. Assists with development and implementation of overall sales and marketing programs to promote Greater Green Bay as a destination, build overnight visitation, and increase economic impact.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve sales goals by working with meeting and event planners, travel managers, national organizing bodies, procurement managers, training managers, and third-party companies regionally, nationally, and worldwide in target markets.
  • Meet annual sales goals through solicitation of motorcoach and cruise operators, tour operators, and group travel planners to include Greater Green Bay in travel itineraries and packages.
  • Implement strategies and initiatives to attract conventions, tradeshows, events, and other defined activities to Greater Green Bay by soliciting assigned sales accounts and adding new ones.
  • Initiate sales process by scheduling appointments, making presentations, conducting tours, and site visits.
  • Generate new business by attending industry events, marketplaces, tradeshows, conventions, sales calls, and networking opportunities.
  • Assist in development of travel brochures, e-newsletters, sample itineraries, packages, and other promotional materials as sales tools.
  • Research, develop, and implement creative comprehensive bid opportunities.
  • Detail contracts, follow established turnover procedures, and document all communications in Discover Green Bay’s client relations management system.
  • Manage the motorcoach, cruise, and leisure group sales market including marketing, sales, and servicing of clients.
  • Assist with closure of sales by building client rapport, thoroughly explaining products and service capabilities, and problem-solving to overcome objections.
  • Report on sales activities including leads, bookings, room nights, attraction attendance, and economic impact.
  • Provide exceptional service to leisure travel and tour groups by maintaining excellent relationships with lodging, restaurants, attractions, and event organizations.
  • Create fresh and unique group experiences, delivering extraordinary memories to tour groups.
  • Maintain product knowledge of city and county hotels/motels, area attractions, airlines, climate, and recreational activities to serve as a resource to visitors.
  • Seek education on the destination, top visitor markets, and regional competitors while building relationships with hospitality partners to solicit assistance with bidding, host group business, and serve as a resource to planners.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in direct sales calls, sales blitzes, tours, site inspections, familiarization tours, tradeshows, industry events, meetings, and conventions as agreed upon in the annual plan and with local stakeholders.
  • Maintain memberships in industry organizations.

  • Perform other related activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high degree of leadership skills; seen as the local industry leader of hospitality. Must be able to lead and motivate teams internally and externally within the hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing, and communications typically acquired through completion of a two-year associate degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Presentation skills: ability to give persuasive and influential presentations promoting the values and vision of Discover Green Bay to small and large groups.
  • Analytical skills necessary to complete annual department Business Plan, Annual Report, and oversee monthly sales reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to serve as liaison with area hotel/motel sales directors, general managers, community leaders, and foundations.
  • Strong communicator with a desire to share and educate stakeholders on the value of tourism to the city.
  • Passion for continually learning and implementing new ideas and industry best practices.
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude toward the travel and tourism industry.
  • Required to follow all safety standards including federal, state, and organizational rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and software systems including Microsoft Office and DGB Customer Relationship Management systems.

Pay

$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year

Schedule

  • Full-time, indefinite duration
  • Required travel: 10-25%
