Sales Clerk

This position is located within Commander, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, VA. The purpose of this role is to ensure proper collection and disposition of revenues generated at the assigned facility/beach.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and ring up sales for merchandise.
  • Answer questions regarding hours of operation, upcoming events, merchandise availability, and cost.
  • Operate a cash register, provide correct change, and complete the Daily Activity Report (DAR) at the end of each shift, ensuring all cash handling, reporting, and securing requirements are met.
  • Verify the amount of money collected and drop the cashier bag into the safe.
  • Prepare and display merchandise, receive shipments, and verify stock items in accordance with established procedures.
  • Inventory and replenish stock to maintain established levels, rearranging displays to accommodate seasonal or fast-moving items.
  • Maintain sales and storage areas in a neat and orderly condition, following all sanitation requirements.
  • Perform basic cleaning duties, including vacuuming, washing surfaces, replacing light bulbs, and maintaining restrooms (disinfecting, replenishing supplies, and reporting malfunctions).
  • Notify supervisor when cleaning supplies are needed or equipment requires repair.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.
  • Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and commonly used cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to understand and carry out basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, make change accurately, and prepare reports.
  • Must demonstrate maturity, strong customer service skills, tact, and good judgment.

This position does not have a positive education requirement.
